Sic transit gloria mundi

by Decemberbaby

My laptop has died. Baruch dayan emet.

K dropped it. It’s not the first (or second, or even fifth) time that my computer has fallen, but this was the fatal blow. After trying everything, even after taking it to the Genius Bar, nothing remains but for me to choose a new computer. There is hope that the Apple geniuses might be able to transfer the data from the old hard drive onto the new when they set up the computer for me, which would be substantially cheaper than a data recovery service. Let’s hope they can, because I haven’t backed up my computer in at least a year.

The new laptop will immediately receive a keyboard-protecting film and a hardshell case. The hardshell case will then have its edges covered in foam pipe insulation or something similar. I have to expect that my new computer will fall again, so I’m going to protect it as much as possible and back up my data frequently.

While we’re on the topic, does anyone have an opinion on whether I should go for the basic macbook or the macbook pro? I don’t demand much from my computer, just photos, music, web surfing, and the occasional Word document.

I may not have a chance to blog again until I’ve chosen and bought a new computer. See you soon!

  1. So sorry about your computer! Electronic fatalities are so depressing.

I’d go for the MacBook Pro, because the regular MacBook isn’t quite as fast or as durable. The MacBook Pro gives you the aluminum case, twice as much RAM and more expandability for $200 more.

I have the 13″ MacBook Pro, bought just over a year ago, and I love it.
